Bo Nicholson

Bo Nicholson’s connection to Raleigh, North Carolina, runs deep. He was raised there alongside his two brothers, William and Henry. His ties to the city have shaped his personal values and professional journey, and he continues to make it the center of his life. After high school, Bo moved to Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia. He graduated from the Terry College of Business in 2010. During his time in Athens, he also became part of the band Mama’s Love. The group toured extensively across the Southeast and recorded at renowned studios like Southern Ground in Atlanta, working with the acclaimed producer John Keane. The time spent making music taught him essential lessons in teamwork, discipline, and the importance of shared purpose. These lessons continue to impact his professional endeavors to this day. Although Bo eventually moved away from a music career, he remains closely involved with it. He frequently performs with a local cover band, Steamroom Etiquette, in Raleigh and occasionally reunites with his former bandmates for special performances. Music still plays a significant role in his life, providing a creative outlet and personal fulfillment. In 2012, Bo entered the financial services field by joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s intensive Practice Management Development program, which helped him build his practice through traditional methods like cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early experiences were fundamental in shaping his approach to client relationships, prioritizing proactive service and long-term connections. In 2016, Bo decided to join Capital Investment Companies, partnering with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). The firm’s client-first philosophy and focus on cultivating long-term relationships aligned with his values. Since then, he has been integral in growing FRM into a trusted advisory team serving high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. Today, FRM has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach. Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, a recognition given to those who demonstrate outstanding performance and client service. Outside his advisory work, Bo co-hosts a personal finance radio show that airs weekly across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show is designed to offer practical financial guidance and make financial education accessible to a broad audience. Bo’s philosophy as a financial advisor is centered around trust, clarity, and a long-term perspective. He is committed to helping clients navigate complex financial decisions, minimize taxes, and make intentional choices at every stage of life. Whether planning for retirement, managing family wealth, or navigating business transitions, he tailors his advice to each client’s needs. On a personal note, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018, and together, they have two children: Grove, born in 2021, and Bill, born in 2023. They also have a yellow lab named Parker. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and exploring the North Carolina coast in his free time. His passion for music continues, and he enjoys performing or attending shows whenever possible. As Bo looks to the future, he remains focused on continuing his personal and professional growth.
